Exhibition Dates: January 20 – February 13, 2011
Opening Reception: Thursday, January 20th, 6-9pm
The Jennifer Kostuik Gallery is pleased to open its 2011 exhibition program with REMEDY, a two-person exhibit featuring works on paper by Stu Oxley and resin paintings by Sand T. The public is cordially invited to an opening reception on Thursday, January 20, from 6pm to 9pm. Jennifer Kostuik Gallery is located at 1070 Homer Street in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Ontario based Master Printer Stu Oxley presents a selection of new mono-prints in an array of vivid and rich colors. Through photo transfer, chine colle (Japanese rice paper) and intaglio printmaking techniques, Oxley creates multidimensional and layered concepts of memories within the images. Oxley etches into the plate, carrying enigmatic gestures that float like tiny particles on the surface of the eye combined with gestural lines and marks that hover close to a symbolic language unto its own. The print is an impression as a memory is an impression, and the intuitive mark making and textural effects, subtly layered, suggest depth and dreams of a past occurrence where the details are gone but the feeling remains.
In 2011, Stu Oxley is having a solo exhibition at Naughton Gallery at Queens University in Belfast, Ireland. Oxley owns and operates Riverside Studio where he has wored with several established artists, including John Kissick, Joe Fafard, Tony Scherman, John Hartman, Stephen Hutchings, Tony Urquhart and Tim Zuck.
Mixed media works by Sand T, C-3 Lilac, 2010, UV resistant industrial epoxy resin, acrylic paint and graphite on archival clayboard panel, 17.75 x 17.75 x 2.5 inches. For more info and purchasing inquiry please contact Jennifer Kostuik Gallery.
The gallery is delighted to introduce Sand T, the newest member to the gallery roster through this exhibit. Born in Malacca, Malaysia, currently residing in Malden, Massachusetts, Sand T employs an array of bold colors with extremely fine graphite lines and smooth resin layers to create a sophisticated and ultra minimal aesthetic in her art. Highly enticing to the eye, the interplay of line, layers of resin, and intentionally placed resin droplets creates a wonderful three-dimensional effect. Her precision and control over a difficult medium brings to the viewer her sensibilities concerning the exploration of time and the meditative energies of controlled motion in non-objective imagery.
